CLARK – Vanni Garcia of W. Autosport Vannitec and defending champion Jonathan Tiu of JCT-Blanche Racing shared the spotlight recently in the second leg of the 2008 PAGCOR Drag Racing Championships-Northern Series at the newly-built Clark International Speedway (CIS) Drag Strip in Clark Ecozone here.
None of the seven fancied American Muscle cars made it to the Quick 8 encounters with four records broken in this event.
Garcia led the record breakers with an all-time fastest quarter-mile mark of 9.569 seconds aboard his two-door, 4g63t engine 1993 Mitsubishi Cyborg owned by Edwin and Willie Torres of W. Autosport Vannitec Team.
Defending champion Jonathan Tiu of JCT-Blanche Racing bagged the overall Quick 8 crown and set new Front Wheel Turbo Charge record of 9.914 seconds.
Christian Go also of JCT-Blanche Racing again established a new RP All-Motor record of 10.519 seconds.
Eduardo Pujol of W. Autosport Vannitec Team posted the fourth record time of 10.8 seconds.
Tiu shifted to Honda Chop Top and made it into the Quick 8 division. He turned back Edwin Cayco of H3 Motorsports and Cebuano champ David Lim of DGL Motorsports in the semifinals. He then beat Garcia who suffered a broken axle for the Quick 8 crown with a time of 10.551 seconds.
Lim ended third with a 10.24 seconds.
