LAS VEGAS – Even Thomas Hearns was surprised.
The Hitman from Detroit was among the “heavyweights” who watched the fight from ringside, and as he inched his way out of the MGM Grand gave his thoughts on the year’s biggest fight.
“I still thought it was a very interesting fight,” said the man who fought the likes of Sugar Ray Leonard, Marvin Hagler and Roberto Duran in classic fights during the eighties.
“But I feel that the fight was a little different than what I thought it would be. And Pacquiao came out victorious,” he added.
Hearns was still a hit among the crowd, and on his way out would stop here and there to have his pictures taken with fans. He walked with two men who appeared to be his bodyguards.
He said Pacquiao deserved the victory.
“Because he did what was needed to win the fight.”
And that was to overwhelm Dela Hoya with his speed and punching power. – Abac Cordero
