Oliva-Tan rules Orchard Founders

-

Seve Oliva and Antonio Tan Jr. made one big push in the final round to claim a one-point overall victory in the Orchard Founders Cup Invitational, the member-guest tournament of The Orchard Golf and Country Club in Dasmariñas, Cavite.

Oliva and Tan pooled together a superb 22-under-par 94 points in the combined aggregate format at the Palmer course after starting out with an 11-under 47 points in best-ball play at the Player course for a 36-hole total of 141 points.

That was good enough for a one-point win over early leaders Munding del Rosario and Alfredo Pareja who managed just 52 at the Player layout and ended up settling for the Class B crown after soaring ahead with an 88 in the first round.

The spotlight also fell on King Stehmeier and John Papa who took the low gross plum with an even-par 108 points and the other division winners Nestor Sevilla-Yuchiro Nakanishi (Class A), Rodolfo Zapanta-Charlie Tan (Class C), Miguel de Asis-John David Laurel (Class D) and Rene Lim-Jaime Fernandez (sponsors division).

Of the 800 players, Willy Roldan went home with the biggest prize. A guest of Las Piñas Vice Mayor Henry Medina, Roldan was the solo winner of a BMW 116i AT worth almost P2 million for a hole-in-one at Player 11 on Friday. Rafael Ilagan bagged the major raffle prize – a business class round trip ticket for two to the West Coast packaged with a Caribbean cruise put up by Philippine Airlines and Royal Caribbean International.

Two others, Charandramogan Anamirtham and We-Yuan Hung, won a BMW 318i and BMW 166i, respectively, as major prizes of the Founders grand raffle.
