Xavier School and De La Salle-Zobel dominated their respective divisions to top the elimination round of the Mini-Youth Basketball League (MYBall) 2008 Invitationals at the St. Stephen’s High School Blue Eagle gyms recently.
Xavier swept the field and finished with an 8-0 slate in the mini division (11 below) while DLS-Z lorded it over the Contender Division (14 below) with an 8-1 mark.
The sweep gave Xavier the outright finals berth with three teams Ateneo (7-1), Don Bosco-Makati (6-3) and Lourdes School-Mandaluyong (5-3) clashing for the other finals seat in the stepladder semis.
Ateneo also finished second in the Contender category with a 7-2 card while Chiang-Kai Shek College and La Salle Greenhills took the other semis berths with 7-2 and 6-3 slates, respectively.
La Salle-Zobel and Ateneo enjoy twice-to-beat advantages in the crossover semis set at 8 a.m. today, also at the Blue Eagle Gym.
The MYBall Inc. is headed by chairman Rico Perez, commissioner Ricky Dandan, general manager, Jay Salvador,secretary, Clarence Aytona, treasurer and Arpy Perez, marketing director, with Ramil Cruz and Joey Mendoza as technical directors.
“MYBall is not just a tournament but a true grassroots basketball development program. The tournament is just a component of the program that was developed and will be fully implemented by veteran basketball coaches,” said Rico Perez.
