Top UAAP, NC squads vie in Ateneo invitational
The Jollibee Ateneo Invitational Team Tennis Championships begins Dec. 6 with top UAAP and NCAA squads leading the cast at the Ateneo Loyola Tennis Center.
Patrick John Tierro, runner-up finish in last week’s PCA Open, will banner the De La Salle team while sisters Anna Christine and Anna Clarice will lead guest team Smart, which is also the event’s presenter.
“What makes this tournament unique is that the participating teams are from different leagues. For the first time, the men’s and the ladies will play as a team,” said Ateneo tennis program head Jimbo Saret during the event’s formal launching at the Ramberry Suites in Quezon City yesterday.
Aside from La Salle, which will be handled by Taddy Cruz, other teams from the UAAP are Ateneo de Manila, UST and UP while the NCAA side will be led by College of St. Benilde, San Beda College and Jose Rizal University.
Also in the fold are Assumption College, Rizal Technological University and Jollibee.
“We are happy to be a part of this tournament, which is a true test of our commitment to help in promoting Filipino sportsmanship,” said Jollibee brand manager Kaye Segismundo.
A team has to win at least three matches to win a tie. A tie is composed of the girls singles, boys singles, girls doubles, boys doubles and mixed doubles.
