Que joint 11th in HK Open

-

Angelo Que fired four birdies in the last nine holes and came away with a four-under 66 for a joint 11th in the Hong Kong Open ruled by Taiwanese Lin Wen-tang in a playoff in Fanling yesterday.

Lin, who fired a 67 for a 265, missed winning the crown in regulation, flubbing a six-foot birdie putt. But he produced a spectacular shot from the under the trees in the first playoff hole on No. 18 for an easy birdie to drag North Ireland’s Rory McIlroy, who shot a 65, to another playoff hole.

But Lin made another birdie on the second playoff hole to clinch the victory in the $2.5 million event.

Italy’s Francesco Molinari, who also made a 65 to force a three-way tie, bowed out of the first playoff hole after missing a 12-foot birdie putt.

Que‘s blazing finish put him in joint 11th at 269, his best since topping the Philippine Open at Wack Wack last April.

Tony Lascuña was the next best Filipino finisher in the event at joint 34th with a 275 after a 69 followed by Frankie Miñoza, who had a 69 for a 279 for a share of 53rd, Artemio Murakami, who had a 70-279 for 63rd, and Juvic Pagunsan, who wound up 70th with a 288 after a fourth straight 70.
