The University and Colleges of Luzon Athletic Association (UCLAA) will unveil its inaugural basketball season with a heavy five-game bill set Nov. 25 at the Makati Coliseum.

Host St. Francis of Assisi College highlights the busy opening day schedule by taking on National College of Business and Arts at 10 a.m. followed by the game pitting Las Piñas College against De Ocampo Memorial College at 11:30 a.m.

Also on tap are matches between Metro Manila College and University of the Philippines-Los Baños at 1 p.m., Pamantasan Lungsod ng Muntinlupa and Colegio de Sta. Monica at 2:30 p.m. and Philippine College of Criminology and St. Jude College at 4 p.m.

“We’re called a promising new league because we’re the first sports league in the country to cover the whole Luzon area,” said league president Arturo Onas of St. Francis in yesterday’s media launch at the Barbara restaurant in Manila.

The event is supported by Mang Inasal, Air21, Besuto prawn crackers, Villa de Oro Boracay, Magarbo, Basketbolista magazine, Magnolia and www.gameface.com.ph.

Games in junior basketball and senior volleyball will be announced later.

Onas said the UCLAA seeks to create opportunities to actively involve member schools in promoting amateur sports and develop the ideals of sportsmanship and fair play among students.

The other UCLAA officers are St. Francis’ Gigi Prats (vice president), St. Jude’s Rizalito Delmoro (secretary), NCBA’s Francisco Quinio (treasurer) and PLMun’s Rommel Balancio (public relations officer).   – Joey Villar
