Taekwondo jins from gyms and clubs affiliated with the Philippine Taekwondo Association take the limelight on Nov. 15-16 when they compete in the 2008 Smart/Petron national gym and club championships at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium.
“This is a good opportunity for gym and club members to show in actual fighting what they have learned so far,” says PTA president Robert Aventajado, who is seeking his second term as chairman of the Philippine Olympic Committee in the coming elections of the country’s top sports body.
Around 800 athletes from Metro Manila and the provinces are expected to vie for honors in six categories – senior men and women, junior men and women and grade school boys and girls.
According to organizing committee chairman Sung Chon Hong, the tournament is being staged as part of PTA’s commitment and endeavor to develop the sport as well as support the government’s grassroots program.
