Stefano Marcelo fashioned out another sweep in the championship round of the 2008 Shell Helix Karting Super Series to capture the Karter of the Year award for the second straight year at the Carmona Circuit in Carmona, Cavite over the weekend.
The 16-year-old Marcelo flashed fine form to turn back his rivals and lead a 1-2 finish for Maranello-San Miguel Corp.-Marcelo Racing as John Alvarez placed second in both the ROK Senior and Formula 125 Open Senior classes of the event sponsored by of Shell Helix, Denso Iridium Power, PagCor Sports, Yokohama Tires, Motorstar Eastway Company and Aeromed Ambulance Transport.
Marcelo clocked 17 minutes and 54.441 seconds in the 20-lap race as he finished the eight-leg competition with a perfect total of 575 points.
Lady karter Yvana Carangan of Auts Racing and Oliver Aquino of Alessandra Racing also hogged the spotlight by coming up with stunning wins in this series sanctioned by the Automobile Association Philippines (AAP).
Carangan upstaged male rivals Joseph Castelar of Auts Racing, Milo Rivera of Jet Racing, Brian del Val of Ready2Race, John Castelar of Auts Racing and RG Romero of Jet Racing to rule the Formula SL Novice division.
Aquino, on the other hand, won the Formula SL Expert class with a slim 0.162 seconds win over Andres Calma of Auts-San Miguel Corp.
Auts Racing’s Joseph Castelar and Indy Villalon also bagged the Formula SL Novice and Expert crowns, respectively.
Castelar wound up with 368 points for a 13.5-point lead over Del Val while Villalon tallied 523 points to beat teammates Andres Calma and Bobby Domingo.
Auts Racing driver Joel Caniza clinched the Formula SL Heavy title over teammate Mike Fox.
