Ateneo, La Salle renew golf feud Nov. 21
After an epic battle on the hard courts, De La Salle University and Ateneo University bring their fabled rivalry to the golf course.
The Green Archers and the Blue Eagles meet in the 21st edition of the Ateneo-La Salle Golf Classic Nov. 21 at the at the north and south courses of Canlubang Golf and Country Club.
First held in 1984, the event, sponsored by Titleist, Yamaha Golf Carts, Pepsi Cola, Johnnie Walker Scotch Whiskey, Wine Depot, The Wall Street Journal, Pioneer Insurance, ME Dimaculangan Const., ANIMO Magazine, Microtel and Hidden Valley Springs, is an eagerly awaited annual dual meet where alumni and students of all ages from both schools compete in honor of their alma mater.
In 2003, when La Salle won for the third straight year, the Taft-based school retired and kept for good the trophy donated by Ambassador Carlos Valdes. Ateneo avenged that loss by winning back-to-back in 2006 and 2007 to similarly retire a handsome trophy donated by Smart Communications.
With the score tied at 1-1 and perpetual trophies displayed in their respective campuses, the winning school this year will earn bragging rights valid until the next event.
Participants will be competing in eight divisions – the Championship, A, B, C and D, Ladies, Senior and Open Class. October handicap indices will be used to determine classification as well as to compute the net scores.
Registration is now open for alumni of both Ateneo and La Salle. Entry fee is P2, 500, which is inclusive of green fee, giveaway, lunch and a chance to win valuable raffle prizes, plus P200 (good for 2 mulligans).
The field is limited to a maximum of 160 players per school and a shotgun tee-off for the first to sign-up, first to choose hole assignment.
