San Andres scores four-race sweep

-

Multi-titled Kenneth San Andres cemented his status as the Philippines’ No. 1 rider after scoring a four-race sweep of both the premier Pro Open and 125 divisions before 25,000 fans in the third Mayor E. V. Roquero Motocross Cup at the Moldex, Sapang Palay Proper, San Jose, Del Monte Bulacan.

San Andres made the veteran-laden field eat the dust of his trail as he swept both heats of the Pro Open and Pro 125 in the National Motocross Series held under the auspices of the National Motorcycle Sports and Safety Association.

San Andres shoved Jovy Saulog (second) and JC Rellosa (third) to the backseat in both races of the Pro 125, where he is already the virtual champion by virtue of his accumulated 405 points. Even if he skips the final two races (offering 50 points) of the category, he will still run away with the Pro 125 crown as he holds a 60-point lead over second-running Rellosa.

The Philippine Sportswriters Association’s top awardee for motocross, who is backed by Oakley, Bridgestone Tires, HJC Helmets, Fox Racing, Polisport, EZ Trailer, Inside Racing, JBS Motorcycle Parts and Accessories and Bike Plus, was as dominant in the Pro Open, where his twin-kill over Saulog (second) and Jolet (third) netted him a nine-round total of 428 points, 41 ahead of the second-running Saulog.

“I would like to thank Mayor Roquero for staging this wonderful supercross-style event, where the many obstacles and jumps in the tough race course, kept our competitive juices flowing,” said San Andres.

Kenneth’s father/coach Junjun actually made it a double triumph for the San Andreses after crowning himself champion in the Veterans’ Class, where he also scored a sweep over Hermie Bantoc. Junjun’s wards Kenneth Pumaren won the Executive Division while Jerrick Mitra placed second to Noynoy Rellosa in the Junior 85 cc category.

“That was another phenomenal performance by Kenneth, he led almost by half the length of the lap in all the races,” said Junjun.

San Andres tries to formally wrap up both the Pro Open and 125 crowns in the 10th and final round Nov. 23.
