Aguilar bags Superbikes Open crown

-

Glenn Aguilar of Yellow Cab-Ducati-Access Plus Team capped a fruitful season with a big sweep as he formally bagged the Superbikes Open crown recently in the championship round of  2008 Shell Advance Superbikes Championship Series at the Batangas Racing Circuit.

It was another milestone for Aguilar whose feat of winning the Superbikes crown on his full rookie season added color to his glorious career as the country’s greatest motocross champion after clinching 11 Rider of the Year awards, 22 national titles and the very first Asian diadem in the field of motocross.

Aguilar admits the huge support of Yellow Cab Pizza and Ducati-Access Plus provided the big boost in his decision to shift from motocross to superbikes this season, along with the back-up from KTM Motorcycles, Oakley, Bridgestone, FERN-C, Dupont, Alpinestars, Renthal, and MS Motosuit.

“I felt so blessed with big support given by Yellow Cab Pizza, Ducati-Access Plus and the rest of the sponsors who were behind me 100 percent in this new endeavor,” said Aguilar.

“At first, it was really a tough decision whether I’ll stay in motocross or shift to superbikes. I told myself I’ve already achieved an unprecedented feat in motocross and the partnership with these two big sponsors further convinced me to make the big shift. And I’m very happy that my decision proved right,” he added.

“We’re very happy with his feat. We also like to return the gratitude to Glenn Aguilar for not letting us down and making our involvement in Philippine motocross a worthwhile venture. His title feat makes us equally a champion in our field,” said Yellow Cab Pizza marketing manager Cheche Poon.

He finished second overall in the first race aboard his reliable 1098-cc. Ducati bike, clocking 17 minutes and 1.515 seconds. Though sensing something wrong with his bike, Aguilar’s determination and guts put up a good fight against reigning champion Maico Buncio and 10-time titlist Jolet Jao and pulled him through 10 laps of racing with a time of 17:50.032.

With the season-ending sweep, Aguilar wrapped up the series with a total of 294 points.

“I hope this will be the start of another unprecedented milestone as I’m looking forward to more title feats in the local series and hopefully see action in the international scene,” said Aguilar.
