Tournament favorite Cebu, with one postponed game, shoots for its second win as it takes on an unpredictable Dumaguete side today at the resumption of action in Baseball Philippines’ Series IV at the Rizal Baseball Stadium.
The Dolphins thumped the Forward Taguig Patriots, 14-9, in last Saturday’s opener of the country’s premier baseball league’s new series and looked headed to posting their second straight win the day after when organizers decided to stop the games due to darkness.
Cebu had a 7-1 lead after four innings when play was halted with the organizing Community Sports Inc. resetting the match to a later date.
This time, however, Cebu will have all the time against Dumaguete as they play in the 7 a.m. opener of a triplebill in the league sponsored by Mizuno, Gatorade, Purefoods TJ Hotdogs, Welcoat Paints, Industrial Enterprises, Inc., Harbour Centre, The Heritage Park and Agility Logistics.
“It’s still too early but we’ll try to get as many wins as we can,” said Cebu team manager Isaac Bacarisas in Filipino.
Taguig clashes with Series II runner-up Manila at 10:30 a.m. while Batangas tackles Muntinlupa at 2 p.m. in the two other featured matches in the league backed by Philippine Sports Commission, Philippine Olympic Committee, PABA, Sports Radio and Makisig Sports.
The Unibikers, who lost to the Batangas Bulls in the recent BP Series III finale, dropped a heartbreaking 4-6 setback to the Bulls also last Saturday. But they evened things up with the Bulls the day after, pulling off a stunning 13-9 come-from-behind triumph in their rematch after rallying from 0-8 down.
The Sharks, Bulls and Mariners are in a four-way tie for second with the Unibikers while the Forward Taguig Patriots trail the six-team field with a 0-1 mark.
