RP golfers sputter in HK
Tonton Asistio hobbled with a two-over par 72 and fell behind by eight strokes to new leader Matthew McBain, who took charge with a fiery six-under 64 as the Filipino bets bowed out of contention in the Hong Kong Open Amateur Golf Championships in Fanling yesterday.
Asistio, the leader in the first round, stumbled with a bogey and a double bogey with only a birdie to show for that 72 at the par-70 Hong Kong Golf Club’s new course.
The ICTSI-backed bet’s five-over 215 aggregate was eight shots behind McGain’s 207 at ninth place with the Aussie shotmaker wresting the lead from Yang with that sizzling 64..
Anthony Fernando made a 74 and dropped to 12th with a 216 while Peter Villaber skied to a 76 and joined the big bunch of 220 scorers, who included Zanie Boy Gialon (76), Tommy Manotoc (74) and Mark Fernando (70), while last year’s champion Dante Becierra fell farther behind at 31st with a 224 after a 73.
