Mosman Cup lures 139 teams

-

Bigger and better, the annual Mosman Cup returns to the scene this weekend as a total of 139 teams take part in the football tournament for children aged six to 16 at the Nomad Sports Club in Merville Park Subdivision in Parañaque.

Now on its second year, the football meet set Oct. 25-26 will have two groups of 1,300 children competing in five age brackets.

Jena Fetalino, president of Mosman Communications, event official Ding Generoso and some participants made the announcement during Tuesday’s PSA Forum at the Shakey’s UN Avenue branch.

“We like to help in the development of football in the country by offering regular tournaments children can take part in,” Fetalino said in the session sponsored by Shakey’s, Accel, Brickroad gym and Aspen spa and MedCentral Medical Clinic and Diagnostic Center.

Ivan Lawless, one of the stalwarts of the Nomad Sports Club who attended the forum along with fellow players Cris Lawless (Nomad), Cass Greenwell (Nomad), Janine Montebon, Edmer Jurado (Philippine Christian Foundation) and Jane Walker, president of the Philippine Christian Foundation, was confident enough to declare that his team will win.

“We might win it, although we know we’re going up against a lot of tougher teams,” he said.

Players will be competing in the Under-16, Under-14, Under-12, Under-10, and Under-8 brackets.

The Mosman Cup also seeks to encourage children to lead active lives to keep themselves fit and healthy.

The little sisters and brothers of players will also have their dose of fun in the playground of Nomad Sports Club, which will be transformed into a fun field featuring different activities such as face-painting, clay sculpting, and storytelling.

Participants are encouraged to contribute used or old clothing and toys in lieu of the entrance fee. All donations and proceeds will benefit the children from a small school run by the Philippine Christian Foundation in Tondo.
