FEU tossers eye No. 2 vs Archers

-

Far Eastern U, fresh from a thrilling five-set win over Adamson last Saturday, faces another tough challenge as it battles comebacking La Salle in the second conference of the Shakey’s V-League fifth season at The Arena in San Juan today.

With Irish Morada, Rachel Anne Daquis, Shaira Gonzalez and Mary Rose Cabanag on the firing end, the Lady Tams subdued the first conference champions in one hour and 42 minutes to join the league’s other returnee UST in the early lead.

The Tigresses, who split the six Shakey’s V-League titles with the Lady Archers before the two teams took a leave last conference, fashioned out a four-set win over the St. Benilde Blazers in the other opening day contest of the league organized by Sports Vision.

La Salle will try to duplicate UST’s big start as it parades an almost intact roster in its 2 p.m. encounter with FEU.

Bannered by guest player Mayette Carolino and former stalwart Relea Saet, the Taft-based squad will also pin its hopes on the likes Jacqueline Alarca, Michelle Datuin, Manilla Santos and Stephanie Mercado, daughter of former track queen Lydia de Vega-Mercado.

But the FEU spikers will be ready against the Archers, hoping to sustain their form and pick up another win to gain headway in the single-round robin elims among eight teams in the tournament sponsored by Shakey’s Pizza and backed by Active White skin whitening products, Mikasa and Accel.

The Adamson-FEU game will be telecast on NBN-4 starting at 2 p.m. today with replays to be shown on both Viva Prime Channel on Destiny Cable and Makisig Channel on Sky Cable.
