Tall Chinese spikers toy with Pinays
Powerhouse China whipped the Philippines, 25-10, 25-15, 25-17, yesterday to advance to the semifinal round of the seventh Asian Youth Girls Volleyball Championship at the Philsports Arena.
Wang Huimin and Yang Jie combined for 22 kills as the Chinese dominated the RP spikers to notch their fourth straight win.
“We were taller than them, we used that as an advantage,” said China coach Wang Jiaqin through an interpreter.
The Chinese thus forged a semis duel with the Thais, the Southeast Asian Games champions, who walloped the Taiwanese, 25-22 25-17, 28-26.
The loss sent the Filipinas out of the medal race and into the relegation group of the tournament backed by the Philippine Sports Commission, Shakey’s, AT Talents Management, Mikasa and Thermos.
The Koreans likewise advanced to the semis with a 25-15, 28-26, 25-23 trouncing of the Indonesians.
Kwak Yu Hwa delivered the blows as she peppered the opposition with 14 hits with three aces.
They will take on the winner of the duel pitting defending champion Japan and Australia, which was being played at press time.
