Painters focused after rob incident

- Joey Villar, Nelson Beltran -

Rain or Shine coach Caloy Garcia said his players remain focused in their preparation for their opening game in the KFC PBA Philippine Cup against Air21 tomorrow despite a robbery inside the company’s compound with armed men carting away with undetermined amount of cash and valuables.

“The order of our bosses (co-team owners Raymund Yu and Terry Que) is for us to just think about our game Sunday,” said Garcia.

“The players should not be affected,” said Yu on the incident where at least 20 heavily armed men, wearing military uniforms, disarmed six security guards and herded 20 employees into a room in their Pasig compound .

Yu, who was abroad during the incident, took it in stride, saying the important thing was no one got hurt.

“We’re okay. It’s just sad there are people who do this thing,”said Yu.

The young businessman-sportsman assured the Rain or Shine basketball operation will not be affected even as they’re still conducting an inventory of the missing cash and items they lost to the robbers.

Basketball watchers expect a breakout for Rain or Shine this season following a major revamp that saw the entry of Gabe Norwood, Solomon Mercado, TY Tang, Gherome Ejercito and Mark Andaya.

Yu was taking things lightly despite the incident. He said: “You have to roll with the punches.”
