Ekwe fiery farewell nets Finals MVP
True to his vow, Sam Ekwe saved his best for last and delivered the goods for San Beda on his final year with the team.
The 6-9 Nigerian flashed his old dominating form and finished with 21 points, 19 rebounds, three shot blocks, two assists and one steal to cap a brilliant career spiked by two MVP trophies and three championship rings.
“That’s exactly what happened. I didn’t need to talk about what to do, I just showed it,” said Ekwe, who had a pair of so-so performances in the Final Four but promised to dish out his best in his final game with the Red Lions.
“I love this NCAA. I can say I’m more privileged to be here. I feel good God blessed me all three years I played in the NCAA. I feel good about everything,” Ekwe said.
To cap his stint with San Beda, Ekwe ran away with the Finals MVP title for his clutch performance that helped power the team to victory and extend Jose Rizal U 36-year long title drought in the league.
“This is another gift from God,” he said. – Joey Villar
