Baduria-Folayang duel highlights URCC bash

Mixed martial arts fans get a chance to see live, raw combat sport action when the Colt 45 URCC 12 “Supremacy” is staged July 5 at the A Venue Events Hall on Makati Ave. in Makati City.

The event, featuring the likes of Caloy “Bad Boy” Baduria of Elorde MMA and Edward “The Landslide” Folayang of Lakay Wushu, will highlight the 10-bout competition organized by URCC president Alvin Aguilar and sponsored by Colt 45.

“We’ve managed to convince the two, who are champions in their weight classes, to fight each other for the super fight. We’re excited to see who’s going to win,” said Aguilar in yesterday’s media launch at the Bistro Remedios in Manila.

Aguilar was referring to Baduria, the reigning middleweight titlist, and Folayang, a former Southeast Asian Games medalist in wushu who is the current welterweight champion.

Baduria, who has a 6-1-1 (win-loss-draw) record, is described by www.urccmma.com as an agile, powerful, speedy fighter while Folayang, who shocked Alan Co to snatch the crown, boasts of powerful striking abilities, takedown and submission skills.

“Caloy has strong hands while Edward has strong legs and feet,” said Aguilar.

The other bouts in the main event pit Lino “The Terminator” Tagacay of the Philippine Army against American Justin “The Shocker” Cruz of Fokai Guam in bantamweight fight dubbed “the Battle of Bruisers” and Kevin Belingon versus Bimbi Perez in a lightweight match.

Tickets are available at selected National Bookstore and Robinson’s Department Stores branches, Ayala Malls and Ticketworld (891-9999).
