Tagacay, Belingon stake titles in URCC

Bantamweight champion Lino “The Terminator” Tagacay of  Army and flyweight Kevin Belingon of Lakay Wushu will defend their respective titles in the Universal Reality Combat Championship (URCC) XII “Supremacy” slated July 5 at the A. Venue Events Hall in Makati.

URCC is the country’s first and biggest mixed martial arts competition featuring top players from different disciplines.

Tagacay, a former national boxer who trained under a Cuban coach, is expected to face a strong challenge from FOKAI Guam’s Justin Cruz.

Cruz, a purple belt in Brazilian jiu-jitsu, defeated Tagacay during the Ring of Fire competition.

Belingon hopes to remain unbeaten when he battles unbeaten Magellan “Bimbi” Perez of Elorde MMA.

Belingon dethroned Richard Lasparilla two years ago and retained the title over Yaw-yan’s Roldan Cartagena by arm bar submission last year.

Also in the main card of the event sponsored by Pony, No Fear, Yoshinoya, Bingo Bonanza and E-Games is the encounter between middleweight champion Caloy Baduria of Elorde MMA and welterweight king Eduardo Folayang of Lakay Wushu.

Baduria defeated all his opponents by TKO.  His last victim was Guam’s best fighter Frank Camacho. The victory over Camacho earned him his first and, so far, only Superfight title. His lone loss was dealt by former URCC champion Alan Co.

Folayang, a SEA Games medalist, stopped the only man to beat Baduria to win the welterweight title.
