Four UAAP teams spearheaded by reigning titlist De La Salle and two NCAA squads headed by back-to-back champion San Beda lead the quarterfinal cast in the Nike Summer League Thursday and Sunday at the Rizal Memorial Coliseum.
The Green Archers, who topped Group A, face the FEATI Sea Hawks, who made it to the playoffs after finishing second in Group D, at 2 p.m. while the Red Lions, the Group B No. 1, tackle the University of the East Warriors, the Group C No. 2, at 4 p.m. the first phase of the quarterfinals.
Group C No. 1 Far Eastern U and Group B No. 2 Lyceum take center stage next as the two collide on Sunday at 2 p.m. while Group D No. 1 Mapua collide with Group A No. 2 Ateneo de Manila at 4 p.m.
“We’re expecting nothing less than exciting matches,” said tournament director Tanny Gonzales in yesterday’s press conference at the ELJ Building in Quezon City together with Studio 23’s Peter Musngi and Nike officials headed by country manager Mae Dichupa.
The Archers remain the team to watch out for after it retained the core of the champion team of last year here and in the UAAP that included the high-leaping Rico Maeirhofer and sweet shooting JV Casio.
