Hill Climb series kicks off Feb. 27

-

The Hill Climb Club of the Philippines has announced the schedule of its 2008 series, which will feature more rounds and even more exciting venues that will test the mettle of drivers and their cars.

The series officially flags off with a competitors briefing and scrutineering of vehicles Feb. 27 at San Miguel by the Bay at the SM Mall of Asia Complex.

Round 1 will be held  March 1 in Batangas, while rounds 2 and 3 will be held as back-to-back events on March 29 and 30 in Benguet.

These will be followed by rounds 4 and 5 on April 26 and 27 in Bataan and Zambales, with the latter featuring a night climb.

The final round will return to Batangas on May 25 with the season culminating with the 2008 Yearend Awards on Nov. 29.

Expected to reprise their appearances in the Hill Climb Series are 2007 National and Group Three champion Carlos Anton; 2007 Round 3 winner Jan de la Merced; Group 1 champion Lito Ignacio; Group 2 champion Vin Santos; and Historic Class champion David Tanael.

According to Hill Climb Club of the Philippines president, Blue Reyna, the 2008 regulations are in the final stages of completion and will be released before Feb. 27, following extensive consultations with the FIA, AAP and local competitors.

Aside from more events, a new class structure based on horsepower instead of displacement will also be put into place.

This year’s membership fee of P3,000 will include the cost of a club license. However, an AAP license will still be required for those who intend to compete for national championship points. Registration is ongoing.

Media partners for the 2008 Hill Climb Series are Wave 8.91 and Hotwire Studio 23.
