Paz takes archery golden double

-

NAKHON RATCHASIMA – Amaya Paz duplicated her golden-double effort in 2005 by leading the women’s compound team to victory while the men’s recurve team salvaged the bronze at the close of the 24th SEA Games archery competitions here yesterday.

Paz and teammates Jennifer Chan and Abigail Tindugan outclassed the opposition from Day One here, topping the qualifying round by a wide margin before ripping Myanmar, 226-213, in the semifinals and Indonesia, 220-212, in the final yesterday.

The 20-year-old UP psychology student earlier topped the individual event.

Paz and company won the same contests in the 2005 Manila SEAG before hitting the mark in a higher level of competition in the recent Asian championships in Xian, China.

The men’s recurve trio of Marvin Cordero, Mark Javier and Ian Wayne Larsen was good for only the bronze medal, winning it over Myanmar’s Myo Ko Ko, Nav Myo Aung and Zan Whin Htike,

After finishing third in the qualifying, Cordero, Javier and Larsen bowed to the Indonesian team of Ali Sofian Mohammad, Sulistyawan Rahmat and Suprioanto Hendo, 198-210, in the semis.  – Nelson Beltran
