Juan Manuel Marquez reportedly figured in a recent car crash although there are no indications it would in any way affect his scheduled March 15 fight with Manny Pacquiao.
Veteran HBO boxing commentator Jim Lampley said the reigning WBC super-featherweight king showed up in Las Vegas over the weekend with “a laceration” on his forehead.
It was not stated in a boxingconfidential.com report, which came out yesterday, when and where the accident involving the 34-year-old Mexican actually took place.
But Emmanuel Steward, also of HBO, reportedly said it was a serious car wreck.
It seems that the Marquez-Pacquiao rematch will go on as planned, as scheduled at the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas, venue of the 2004 draw between the two fighters.
Neither fighter can afford any untoward incident at this time, considering that a lot of people moved heaven and earth just to get the rematch on.
No word has come out of fight promoters Golden Boy and Top Rank regarding the accident involving the champion. For fight fans, no news is good news. - Abac Cordero
