NAKHON RATCHASIMA – Sharp and steady, the Philippine ace archers were in the thick of the fight after the first 72 arrows in the archery qualifying round at the Suranaree University of Technology Football Field II.
The women’s compound team of Jennifer Chan, Amaya Paz and Abby Tindugan, the reigning Asian champion, paced their event with 2021 points, 41 clear of the second running Indon squad and 66 ahead of third-running Myanmar.
Chan and Paz were running one-and-two in the individual event with 679 and 675, respectively.
The men’s team was running fourth behind Singapore, Indonesia and Thailand but lead archer Benjie Yap was second in the individual side with 653, down by only three to Myanmar’s Ye Min Swe.
Lone RP lady recurve bet Rachelie Ann Cabral was doing good in her event, breathing down Din Dewi Puspitasari’s neck with 630 to the latter’s 642.
Chan was well on target in women’s compound, topping the 70m and 60m distances with 334 and 345. Paz was second in the first stage with 332 and third in the second stage with 343. – Nelson Beltran
