Star scribe shoots ace in SMC invitational

Dante Navarro of The Philippine Star aced the par-3, 139-yard, hole No. 8 of the Wack Wack West course during the sixth San Miguel Corp. (SMC) Media invitational golf tournament recently.

He used a Top Flite 5-iron and a Maxfli No. 5 ball for the feat witnessed by flightmates Aldrin Cardona, Adrian Flores of Business Mirror and Aldrin Quinto of Malaya.

Dino Datu of Cook Magazine emerged as the lowest gross champion in the event backed by San Miguel Beer, San Mig Coffee, Purefoods-Hormel Co., San Miguel Packaging Products Inc., Magnolia Health Tea and Gran Matador Brandy.

Delfin Perez of the Manila Bulletin topped the Class A division followed by Alex Magno of The Star and Joel Palacios of the Manila Times. Business Mirror columnist Al Mendoza ruled the Class B division followed by Philippine Daily Inquirer sports editor Teddyvic Melendres and Ely Saludar of Radio Mindanao Network.

Cardona, Daily Tribune sports editor and Philippine Sportswriters Association (PSA) president, topped the Class C division, beating Malaya scribe Noli Cortez and Inquirer’s Chupsie Medina.
