The National Capital Region qualifying leg of the second Philippine Olympic Festival comes off the wraps today with over a thousand athletes from 15 local government units competing in various fronts at the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex.
Philippine Sports commissioner Joey Mundo will be the keynote speaker in the absence of PSC chair William Ramirez, who is out of the country, during the kickoff rites at 7 a.m.
Others gracing the opener of the week-long multi-sports event staged to discover and train future national team members are Philippine Olympic Committee president Jose “Peping” Cojuangco Jr., POC and POF chair Robert Aventajado, International Olympic Committee representative to the country Frank Elizalde and 17 heads of the various national sports associations (NSAs). – Joey Villar
