4 p.m. – Perpetual Help vs Mapua (Srs)

Ryan Buenafe dished out a triple-double performance, including a season-high 44 points, as defending champion San Sebastian College waylaid Jose Rizal University, 109-96, yesterday in the NCAA junior’s basketball tournament at The Arena in San Juan.

The streak-shooting Buenafe frolicked all game and made mincemeat of JRU’s defense as he made 20 of his 34 attempts from the field. He also hauled down 11 rebounds and had 10 assists in 34 minutes of play.

The 6-foot-2 Buenafe thus shattered the previous high of 40 points set by Letran’s Kelvin Alas last week when the Squires tamed the Cubs, 106-92.

Arvie Bringas also had a double-double showing of 26 points and 12 rebounds for SSC, which won its last two assignments.

Jose Rizal, who drew 30 points from Bon Jovi Cipriano, reeled to its second defeat in four outings.

John Noble shot 29 points while brothers Kelvin and Kristoffer Alas combined for 40 points as Letran smothered Perpetual Help Dalta, 117-72, to tie SSC at the helm with a 3-1 (win-loss) mark.

With the Alas brothers and Noble leading the attack, the Squires dominated the Altalettes from the opening buzzer en route to the runaway victory.

In the main game, the CSB-La Salle Junior Blazers foiled the Cubs’ bid to join the leaders after scoring their second win in four games, 70-62.

The win thus forced a three-way tie for second between CSB-La Salle, its victim and JRU with 2-2 cards, while Perpetual remained winless after four games.
