Ardina barges into match play quarters

Dottie Ardina found herself the lone Filipino survivor  as she trounced two-time Cincinnati All-Star Alexis Nelson, 4 and 3, to reach the quarterfinal round of the Western Women’s Golf Association’s 81st National Junior Golf Championships at the TPC’s River Bend course in Cincinnati, Ohio Wednesday.

The 13-year-old Ardina  birdied three of her first eight holes (2, 5 and 8) then came through with regulation pars at the back to whip the local bet and gain a spot in the last 8.

But her three other ICTSI teammates faltered with Mia Piccio hobbled by poor putting all day, making three three-putts before succumbing to Ohio’s Kelsey Lindenschmidt, 5 and 3.

Cyna Rodriguez  groped for form after scoring a 9 and 7 rout of Maureen Liddy of Wisconsin in the first round as she bowed to Ali Nelson of Minnesota, 2 and 1.

Chihiro Ikeda, the No. 2 seed, likewise failed to dish out the game expected of her, dropping a 4 and 3 setback to Kelly Shon of New York and bowing out of contention.

Meanwhile, Bambee dela Paz tripped Rachel Nelson of West Chester, to lead the winners in the Championship Consolation Flight.
