NAASCU president Dr. Jay Adalem and a nominee by SBP trustee Boni Alentajan were the two others who made it to the short list finalized by the nominations committee in a meeting yesterday at the PBA office in Libis, Quezon City.
Gregorio and Adalem appeared before the committee composed of chairman Ely Capacio and members PBA commissioner Noli Eala, PBL commissioner Chino Trinidad, Atty. Marivic Anonuevo, Lito Alvarez and Alentajan.
Ateneo officials Junjun Capistrano and Ricky Palou declined their nomination so did Chito Salud, son of former PBA commissioner Rudy, early on.
Having made the short list, the nominations committee passed a resolution giving SBP president Manny V. Pangilinan a free hand in choosing the man who will run the day-to-day operation of the national cage body.
"We’re giving it to our president so he can choose the executive director he can work with closely," said Eala.
The nominations committee expects Pangilinan to make the decision before the RP team competes in the SEABA men’s championship in Ratchaburi, Thailand from May 24-28.
"It’s all up to MVP. He can opt to interview the candidates first or he can choose right away. His decision will be ratified by the board of trustees," said Eala.
In the same meeting, the nominations committee came up with a sub-committee to work on the rules on how to screen members of the SBP in its first regular election next year.
Meanwhile, all members of the Basketball Association of the Philippines and Pilipinas Basketball are included in the SBP rolls.
