Cebuana Lhuillier Pera Padala bounced back from a stinging setback and trounced Dazz ’Sang Patak, 74-59, to gain a share of second place at the close of the first round elims of the PBL Unity Cup at The Arena in San Juan late Saturday.
With Kenneth Bono and Doug Kramer on the firing end, the Moneymen dominated the contest and cruised to the trouble-free victory in a big rebound to their heart-breaking 81-84 overtime setback to Harbour Centre last Tuesday.
With the win, the Moneymen tied Burger King for second at 4-2 even as Harbour Centre firmed up its lead with a 73-70 win over Toyota Balintawak for a 5-1 mark. The Roadkings slipped to fourth at 3-3 followed by San Miguel-Magnolia (2-4), Henkel-Sista (2-4) and Dazz (1-6).
Meantime, Harbour’s Jason Castro was named best player for the week for his end-game brilliance in the team’s last two wins. Castro beat the buzzer with a triple to lift Harbour to a pulsating 73-70 win over Toyota Balintawak last Saturday.
He also scored 17 points, grabbed nine rebounds and dished out six assists in their win over the Moneymen.
The 6-foot-5 Bono came away with 15 points, including two triples in a decisive breakaway in the third quarter that also saw Emerson Oreta knock in two treys.
"I’m very satisfied with this kind of win," said coach Luigi Trillo. "We worked hard in the second quarter and then doubled our effort in the final half."
