This was the latest warning issued by Top Rank big boss Bob Arum who said that Pacquiao should never take this coming fight against the undefeated Mexican lightly.
"If Jorge hurts Manny, he just won’t let him off the hook. Once he hurts Manny, he will surely go for the kill," Arum told Filipino scribes at the lobby of the Radisson Hotel Monday evening.
Arum recalled Pacquiao’s fight against Oscar Larios in Manila last year, and said that the Mexican’s biggest mistake was that he didn’t pounce on his opponent whom he rocked in the second round.
This allowed Pacquiao to escape with a 12-round decision and save himself from an embarrassing loss before his cheering countrymen.
"It seemed that Larios backed off instead of going for the kill. Solis is quite different. Once he hurts you, he’d go for the kill," added the legendary promoter.
Arum said that while Pacquiao is the overwhelming favorite, he should be aware that Solis is no greenhorn, no neophyte and not the type of boxer to fool around with.
"Solis is not well-known but he’s got the exposure. Solis is a very good boxer. He mixes it up well," Arum said.
The ageless promoter added that he wouldn’t care if the fight ends inside three rounds or lasts the distance as long as the fight fans get their money’s worth.
"The length of the fight doesn’t matter as long as they mix it up. I don’t care if it’s 12, 10 or three rounds as long as it’s a good fight," said Arum, hoping, of course, that it’s Pacquiao, his boy, winning.
