The Talk n Text Phone Pals mourned the demise of former commissioner Jun Bernardino but went to work against the Welcoat Dragons, hacking out a 100-78 rout in a road game in the Talk n Text PBA Fiesta Cup at the Araullo Gym in Cabanatuan City last night.
J.J. Sullinger set the tone of the match early while going 3-of-3 from beyond the arc in the first period.
With the entire team hitting at a 48-percent field-goal shooting, the Pals took a 53-26 halftime advantage and were never threatened in the final 24 minutes of play.
The Pals improved their win-loss record to 2-2 while dealing the Dragons a fourth defeat against a lone win.
Humbled by Air21 the last time out, Talk n Text buckled down to work early, opening up a 28-10 margin going into the second period.
The Pals also came out smoking in the second half and built a lead as big as 32 at 60-28 on baskets by Sullinger and Yancy de Ocampo. They settled for a 78-48 bulge at the end of the third.
Sullinger finished with 20, including an acrobatic slam following a miss by Vic Pablo – a move sending the crowd on their feet and putting the count a 94-59 with 4:47 left.
The dependable TnT import went 4-of-8 from the three-point land and also came through with 15 rebounds. Welcoat’s Charles Clark wound up with 33 points on 16-of-32 shooting and added 15 rebounds.
