Uy snares 3rd gold; Dacanay cops 2nd

Kendrick Uy pocketed his third gold medal and fellow University of the Philippines (UP) swimmer Luica Dacanay added a second to her collection as the UAAP-RP squad kept its poise in the 2006 Asean University Games in Hanoi, Vietnam.

Uy won the men’s 50 meters backstroke and anchored the 4x100 medley team alongside Michaelmars Danila (Ateneo), Timmy Chua (UP) and Jeffrey Laguitao (UP) to victory for his third gold medal after the 100 meters freestyle in the biennial event organized by the Asean University Sports Council.

Dacanay was also victorious in the women’s 50 meters backstroke for her second gold medal after the 100 meters backstroke she contributed to the UAAP-RP team which is backed by Speedo and Hapee.

Ateneo’s representative to the UAAP board Junjun Capistrano also relayed that silver medals were clinched on the third day of competition by UP’s Chua (100 breaststroke) and Ateneo’s Nikki Santiago (200 breastsstoke).

Uy also figured in the 200 meters freestyle with a bronze that went with another bronze in the 50 meters backstroke courtesy of Danila also on Day 3.
