Pacman scores vs Wow distributors
December 20, 2006 | 12:00am
Filipino boxing idol Manny Pacquiao won the opening round of his legal battle with "Wow" videoke microphone distributors In-a-Jiffy Enterprises and 2GK Corporation.
This developed as the Quezon City Prosecutors Office found to have probable cause in Pacquiaos complaint against IAJ and 2GK for allegedly violating his intellectual property rights.
The case is to be raffled off at the sala of Quezon City Regional Trial Court Executive Judge Zamora at 2 p.m. today.
Pacquiao complained last April that the WOW distributors violated a certain section of the Intellectual Property Code in using his image and name in a promotional campaign making it appear hes endorsing the product.
The world-renowned pugilist is endorsing a different brand of videoke microphone.
"We had to stop the unauthorized use of my name, my image, and even the words of songs in my CD Album. We have made commitments to companies who approached us in good faith, like Smart, San Miguel, McDonalds, No Fear, Alaxan, Xtreme Magic Sing, and others, and we expect to have additional commitments like them," said Pacquiao in a statement.
