The hitting of the traditional ceremonial drives first at Camp John Hay then at the Baguio Country Club yesterday formally launched the tournament which is now run and manage by the newly-created Fil-Am Foundation.
Special guests Baguio Rep. Mauricio Domogan and acting Mayor Peter Rey Bautista were joined in the ceremonial tee-off by John Hay chairman Robert John Sobrepeña, who co-chairs the executive committee with Country Club president Federico Agcaoili, Gen. Nelson Eslao, Louie Sison and Nanette Filler.
"Everything is in place," dueted Country Club general manager Anthony de Leon and John Hay GM Jeric Hechanova, the tournament committee co-chairmen. "We would also like to wish all the participants and guests to have fun and express our thanks to our valued sponsors."
Wilson Sports, Pacsports, Generali Pilipinas, San Miguel Corporation, Asian Spirit, Ayala Land, Ottica Eyewear, University of Baguio. Texas Instruments, Eva Air, U-Bix, Club Car and Travel Club are sponsors.
After the seniors competition ending Nov. 30, the mens regular tournament starts Dec. 4 with a banner field of 1,056 participants seeing action.
Nike Golf Teams Fil and Am division champions have confirmed their participation and are expected stiff competition from rival teams Manila Southwoods, Mizuno and Del Monte which all have beefed their respective lineups this year.
