John Paul Escobal fired 18 points while Alexander Angeles buried a crucial triple in the closing seconds as San Beda turned back Ateneo, 59-56, at the start of the Filoil-Flying V Homegrown Cup at the Philsports Arena Saturday.
Angeles triple in the last 57 seconds shattered the 54-all tie but Ateneo point guard Jai Reyes cut the deficit with a running shot and the Blue Eagles gained possession after a miss by Escobal.
But the Eagles turned the ball over, setting up the go-ahead play for the Red Lions.
The Eagles were without key stars Doug Kramer, JC Intal and Mark Anthony Escalona.
