FFVS goes homegrown

-
Who are the homegrown players?

Homegrown cagers are those who opted to stay "home" after graduating from a particular high school system, going on to play with the senior team of their respective universities or colleges.

Filoil-Flying V Sports (FFVS) believes that development in sports should begin at the secondary or primary level. The current situation shows that a lot of players shop around for other schools to play in because there is no space left in the main team. It is the dream of FFVS to see a main team composed of homegrown talent.

FFVS is staging the College Edition of the Filoil- Flying V Homegrown Cup starting Nov. 4. Opening day festivities will precede featured classic rivalries of the 70s with a San Beda vs Ateneo game followed by a La Salle vs Letran. The day will be capped with San Sebastian matching skills with current UAAP kings, the Santo Tomas Growling Tigers.

This tournament has invited 10 schools with a strong student and alumni base. The schools have shown their intention to send their best lineup to prove once and for all that they are the best.

Ateneo will parade superstars JC Intal, Doug Kramer and Macky Escalona, and homegrown Blue Eagles Jai Reyes, Ken Barracoso and Martin Quimson.

Archrival La Salle will have Rico Maierhoffer, Cholo Villanueva, Ty Tang, JV Casio as well as homegrown Archers Marko Batrevic, Simon David Atkins and James Menese.

NCAA champs the San Beda Red Lions will have behemoth Sam Ekwe manning the slot along with Yousif Aljamal, Paul Escobal and Alex Angeles.

Backing them up are homegrown Lions Jay-R Taganas, Edward Canlas, Riego Gamalinda and Eduardo Tecson.

Their UAAP champion counterpart will likewise parade rebounding power Jervy Cruz along with Chester Taylor and Dylan Ababou. Taking the stage with them are the homegrown Tigers in Anthony Espiritu, Jun Cortez and Japs Cuan.

The Letran Knights will likely rely on their very own homegrown talents in John Melegrito, Mark Balneg and Rafael Jazul.

The Philsports Arena, a venue of numerous cage wars, was chosen by the organizers to be the official venue of the league. Tickets shall be available at all TicketNet at all SM outlets, the PhilSports Complex, and the Filoil office at 912-7242.

The general admission section shall be given free to the students of the participating schools.

Commissioner Virgil Villavicencio and the rest of the FFVS management team promise a great tournament sponsored by Gerry‚s Grill, Accel, Millennium Plans, Franz Burger, UABS Car Rental, Pepsi, Filpride- USA 88 and Nescafe.Try it today. <http://pa.yahoo.com/*http://us.rd.yahoo.com/evt=36035/*http://music.yahoo.com/unlimited/>
