Manila teams off to big start in Unigames

BACOLOD Metro Manila schools stamped their class in various fronts in the University Games last night with Emilio Aguinaldo College and De La Salle fashioning out victories over La Carlota City College and St. Louis University in mens and womens basketball, respectively, here.
The EAC cagers blasted the Negros Occidental-based La Carlota squad, 99-65, to kick off their campaign in mens basketball while the La Salle cagebelles opened their bid with a 98-46 rout of the Baguio-based SLU quintet.
Fifty-one schools are seeing action in this years University Games hosted by the University of St. La Salle for the ninth time since it was conceptualized by former USLS president Bro. Rolando Dizon in 1995.
University of San Agustin, however, scored an 89-70 victory over St. Francis of Assissi College in the other mens basketball matchup.
Ateneo de Manila also posted an emphatic 70-47 win over University of San Agustin in womens caging.
In mens volleyball, defending champion Far Eastern University won over Philippine Christian University, 18-25, 25-18, 25-17, 25-18, while De La Salle University-Dasmarinas swept Holy Cross Davao, 25-16, 25-8, 25-22. Antonieta Lopez
