Megabuck bout lined up after Viloria win in US

For sure, Brian Viloria will mean business when he defends his World Boxing Council (WBC) light flyweight title against Mexican Omar Niño Romero on Thursday (Friday in Manila) at the Orleans Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada

His manager, Gary Gittelsohn, means it quite literally.

Gittelsohn is already exploring the possibility of a megabuck fight with popular Japanese champion Koki Kameda once Viloria gets past his second challenger.

"We will be very interested to fight him (Kameda) although we haven’t talked with his camp yet," Gittelsohn said.

The Japanese media are also hot on the prospect of seeing their hero face the undefeated champion from Hawaii. Japanese reporters took turns in interviewing Viloria inside the ring of the newly-extended and exclusive training area of the Wild Card gym in Hollywood at the end of his training camp Saturday.

Kameda holds the World Boxing Association (WBA) version of the light flyweight belt.

"It would be the biggest fight in the 108-lbs since Michael Carbajal fought Chiquita Gonzalez, a very big fight that would unify the belts and would be watched by millions of people," said Gittelsohn, noting that more than half of the Japanese population watched Kameda beat Venezuela’s Juan Landaeta in his last bout.

But he knows somebody has to fall first.

"Of course, we still have to hurdle Romero and we’re not looking past this guy."

Viloria’s trainer, Freddie Roach, hit the nail right on the head.

"I want Brian to go out and take care of business with Romero first," Roach said. "The more impressive he looks the better it will be when we talk with the Japanese people."

Possibilities are endless if and once Viloria retains his title.

Viloria, a proud son of Filipino parents, is being groomed to fight in the 112 lbs opposite WBC flyweight champion Jorge Arce although the bankable Mexican is reportedly planning to move up in weight.

Viloria may also go down and fight minimumweight (105 lbs) boss Ivan Calderon.

The Viloria-Romero title bout and the under cards will be shown on wide screen at the Robinson’s Galleria Fountain Area and at Tastebuds in Robinson’s Place Manila starting 10 a.m.

Solar Sports, home of Filipino boxing champions, will telecast the fights also starting 10 a.m. with replays at 7 p.m. and 9 p.m. the following day.
