The Lady Falcons secured a playoff for the last finals slot by downing the SSC spikers in four sets last Wednesday for a 9-4 (win-loss) mark. But they still have to wait for the result of SSC’s final day match with Far Eastern U on Monday to get a clearer finals picture.
Though running third with an 8-6 slate, the Lady Stags, who have already scored four wins in the semis, still have a chance to force a playoff for the second championship berth with a win over the FEU tossers for the league’s 5-of-8 incentive rule.
A victory by SSC over FEU on Monday will set the stage for an Adamson-San Sebastian knockout duel on Wednesday for the right to face De La Salle in a best-of-three clash for the crown in this tournament presented by Shakey’s Pizza.
Meantime, the Lady Falcons are expected to try on new combinations when they play the Lady Pirates at 12 noon today. Lyceum and FEU are out of it all with 7-7 and 5-8 cards, respectively.
De La Salle, which clinched the first finals slot as early as last week after sweeping its first 11 games, hopes to snap its back-to-back setbacks when it takes on FEU in the 2 p.m. main game.
After that impressive win run, the Lady Archers have dropped their last two games in the tournament organized by Sports Vision and backed by Accel, Mikasa, Aquabest, VFresh, ABC-5 and ABC Sports, including a four-set loss to Lyceum last Wednesday in a game they could afford to lose.
Top player Jindarat Kanchana sat out that match for De La Salle as she nursed a knee injury she sustained in the team’s loss to San Sebastian last week.
