AdU up vs La Salle in V-League

La Salle and Adamson clash today in what could be a preview of the championship even as San Sebastian steps up its bid for the second finals berth against Far Eastern U at resumption of the V-League presented by Shakey’s at the Blue Eagle gym.

The Lady Archers held off the Lady Falcons last May 22 to cap their sweep of the single round elims among eight teams then came back from two sets down to turn back San Sebastian in the semis opener before disposing of Lyceum last Wednesday in straight sets to stretch their win run to nine.

After finishing second to La Salle in the elims with a 5-2 card, Adamson split its first two games in the semis, beating FEU in four last June 5 but losing to San Sebastian, also in four sets, last June 7.

But the San Marcelino-based spikers are expected to go all out against the Lady Archers, hoping to get back at the unbeaten leaders and boost their bid for the second championship berth with San Sebastian, FEU and Lyceum lurking behind with 6-4, 5-4 and 4-6 slates, respectively.

Gametime is at 2 p.m. following the SSC-FEU match at 12 noon.

The organizing Sports Vision said ringside and lower box tickets are pegged at P50 and P30, respectively, while the general admission is free.

Aside from La Salle, the hottest team right now is San Sebastian, the reigning NCAA champion, which will be gunning for a third straight victory in the semis.

"We’re going to come out strong because we need as many wins as possible," said San Sebastian coach Roger Gorayeb, who steered the Mendiola-based school to an unprecedented 11-peat in NCAA in the 80s and 90s.

But the Lady Tams are also expected to come out in full force in a bid to resuscitate their own drive for the finals.

"If we can play solid defense, we’ll have a chance at them," said FEU mentor Florentino "Kit" Santos, who engineered the school to the Torribios Cup title two weeks ago and the University Games crown last year.
