Toyota, Montaña try to remain at helm

-
Streaking Toyota Otis guns for its fourth straight victory as it battles Magnolia even as Montaña tries to regain its winning ways against Hapee-PCU at resumption of the PBL Unity Cup at the San Andres Gym.

The Sparks pulled the rug from under the Jewels, 73-65, last week to post their third straight victory for a share of the lead with their victim on 4-1 (win-loss) slates.

Though the Sparks have been playing with renewed confidence and vigor, Toyota Otis coach Louie Alas remains wary of the Spinners in their 2 p.m. encounter.

"I have respect for them (Spinners). They have a tall and formidable frontline so you can’t take it easy when you’re up against them," said Alas.

Besides, Magnolia has beaten Toyota eight times in their last nine meetings that’s why the Sparks are raring to score one over the Arwind Santos-led Magnolia squad.

Both the Spinners and the Teeth Sparklers and the Spinners are tied at fifth spot on 2-3 cards with the winner in their 4 p.m. clash joining Granny Goose Snack Masters in fourth place.

The Jewels remain confident despite blowing a 21-point third quarter lead and eventually losing to the Sparks.

"We’re still in high spirits, we’re not thinking of that loss anymore," said Montaña coach Nel Parado.

Montaña will be up against an unpredictable Hapee-PCU squad, which shocked Heroes Cup champion, 76-60.

"They’re taller and more experienced but we’re quicker so we’ll try to outrun them," said Hapee-PCU mentor Junel Baculi.
