Sports-for-peace set in Mt. Province

The Philippine Sports Commission’s Sports for Peace program has reached as far as the Mt. Province after chair William "Butch" Ramirez and Gov. Maximo Dalog signed an agreement forming another program.

Ramirez and Dalog launched the program during the Cordillera Autonomous Region Athletic Association meet that ended recently in Bontoc.

It was patterned after the Mindanao Friendship Games Ramirez himself conceptualized when he entered the agency five years ago as a commissioner.

The CARAA meet is an annual multi-sports event participated in by elementary and high school students from host Mt. Province, Kalinga, Apayao, Abra, Ifugao and Baguio City.

The meet served as a qualifier for the Palarong Pambansa slated May 7-13 in Naga City.

Local bet Salvador Laurence and Jason Paladsic provided the early victories for the host province with golden efforts in secondary shot put and 3,000-meter steeplechase. — Joey Villar
