The event, dubbed "Pinay in Action," will be highlighted by a 5km and 10km walk/run open to all Filipino women. An All-Womens Expo will also be put up to showcase the diverse talents and ingenuity of Filipino women and promote the products, programs and advocacies of various womens organizations.
"This is our way of calling out to all Filipino women to go out and abandon their sedentary and unhealthy lifestyles in favor of a more active daily routine," said Cayetano, a fitness buff and member of the Philippine Duathlon Team.
She said "women empowerment" had traditionally been associated with the rights of women and efforts to increase their meaningful participation in economic activity and social decision-making, but added the term could be expanded to refer to womens health and fitness.
"We are, in effect, adding a new dimension to the concept of women empowerment, and that is the aspect of uplifting the state of womens health," said Cayetano.
