Cycling champs join UCAP as volunteer officials

Seven-time undefeated track champion Manolito Moring heads a list of volunteer officials for the United Cyclists Association of the Philippines’ cycling events.

The UCAP said Moring, a retired PNP officer, is making available his talent and ability in cycling to help the association as UCAP race director.

Among others in the roster of volunteers are Mexico Olympian Bert Roxas, Ben Evangelista, and Rolando Guaves, who will serve as finish line officials.

Asian Gamer Roberto Quirimit, Cesar Filosopo, 1991 SEA Games gold medalists Rufo Dacumos, Rey Esperanza , Rodolfo Plaza and Cornelio Baylon will handle road safety as motorcycle escorts.

Joining them are tour champion, Modesto Bonzo, Tranquilino de Vera, Lupo Alava, Francisco Melendres Calogcog, Ruben Ibay, Boy Las Puna, Elpidio Untalan and Armando Catalan.

"It takes a huge effort to unite all cyclists, old and new ones, under one roof ," said UCAP president Ricky Cruz.

"We have just celebrated our Christmas party (Dec. 18). Masaya lahat, at natutuwa ako na makita na masaya ang mga siklista," Cruz added.

Aside from the prominent names, UCAP is still accepting volunteers from the different cycling clubs nationwide as officiating officials. UCAP is also preparing for a cycling review class, to study further the rules and regulations for cycling competitions.
