Malaysian rips SEAG mark

A day after Filipino Arniel Ferrera broke the hammer throw record, Malaysian Siti Shahida Abdulliah came through with a 53.35m throw to bag the gold medal in the distaff side of the sport in a new SEAG record. Abdulliahs feat shattered the 49.84m mark set by Benchamas Winatho in the 2001 Kuala Lumpur Games.
Ferrera the other day ruled the mens hammer throw event in record fashion, heaving a 60.47m feat to bag to the gold and erase the previous SEAG mark of 58.80m by Malaysian strongman Wong Tee Kue in the 1993 Games in Singapore.
Henry Dagmil established a new SEAG mark in long jump as he leapt to 7.81m, shattering the 7.79m jump recorded by Mohd Zaki Sadri of Malaysia in the Jakarta Games in 1989.
Gretchen Malalad won her third consecutive gold medal in karatedo, emerging as the first-ever Filipino athlete to establish such honor in the sport since 1977. Malalad also won in the 2001 Malaysia and 2003 Vietnam SEAG.
Thailands Bouban Pamang established a new mark in javelin with a 55.06m throw yesterday, bringing to three the number records that have so far shattered in the centerpiece athletics event of the 23rd Southeast Asian Games.
Pamang went on to win the gold. Rosie Villarito of the Philippines settled for silver with 49.43m while Singaporean Zhang Guiron took the bronze with 48.70. Corrs Ebora and Carla Timpog
