Chan provides icing for Magnolia

This time, it was Jeff Chans turn to shine for Magnolia Dairy Ice Cream.
The 6-foot-3 Chan came through with two big plays down the stretch to power the Wizards to a thrilling 75-67 win over gritty Harbour Centre for their fourth straight win in the 2006 PBL Heroes Cup at the FEU Gym.
Arwind Santos led the Wizards with 19 points but it was Chan who struck hardest when needed most as Magnolia stayed unbeaten in four games.
After stealing the ball from the unsuspected Joseph Yeo, Chan capped his heroics by knocking in a huge trey that finally unnerved the Port Masters, 72-67, with only 33 ticks left.
The Port Masters, who won their first two games, absorbed their second straight defeat. Yeo led Harbour with 18 points but was hardly a factor in the fourth.
Earlier, Hapee-Philippine University caught Toyota Otis napping in the third quarter yesterday to snap a three-game losing run, 69-46.
With Jason Castro and Mark Moreño presiding over Hapees fluid attack in the third, the Teethmasters built several double digits leads that paved the way for a runaway win their second in five games.
So overpowering were the Teethmasters they limited the Intramuros-based squad to just seven points while exploding for 21, including six from seldom-used James Razon.
Though the win came too late, it was still sweet for coach Junel Baculi and his PCU squad. Baculi and company lost to the Letran Knights who comprised Toyota Otis squad in the NCAA finals two months ago.
"Medyo late ang panalong ito, pero okey na rin," said Baculi who also drew big games from Robert Sanz.
