The Philippines Gerald Rosales rallied with a five-under 68 and moved 13 rungs up to fifth place, just four shots off the pace, after the penultimate round of the Double A International Open at the par-73 St. Andrews Hill 2000 golf course in Rayong, Thailand yesterday.
Brother of LPGA Tour campaigner Jennifer, Gerald rattled in three birdies in the front nine and added two in the backside in a remarkable bogey-free round that carried him into contention for the championship in the 72-hole $300,000 tourney.
Unfortunately, another Filipino bet in Angelo Que virtually moved out of contention as he shot himself on the foot with a 75.
Tied for fifth halfway through the tourney, Que slid to 20th in a tie with five others including compatriot Cookie LaO after the third round. Que and LaO are eight shots behind leader Shiv Kapur of India at the start of todays final round.
Kapur continued to head the pack when the third round was completed as he scored a one-under 72 for a one-shot lead over hometown bet Thongchai Jaidee.
Another Thai player Thammanoon Srirot also carded a 72 and joined Simon Yates at 10-under, two strokes behind Kapur.
First round co-leader Kenny Walker of Scotland was among the 24 players who returned early yesterday to complete round two. He was even par for the round through 15 holes when play was suspended Friday.
